Divorce has been in every culture and in every era according to a documentary DVD on Marriage, produced by Films for the Humanities & Sciences. The divorce rate is seemingly high in the United States over any other country. According to the 2006 Census, if your are in your first marriage you have a 40% chance of divorce, in your second a 60% chance of divorce, and in your third a 73% chance of divorce. Now the rates are higher, at a 47%. We also know that parents facing challenges with children with disabilites have added stress, even though there hasn't been a stastistical study proving the 80% divorce rate some have claimed (our story with autism).
Sometimes divorce is necessary when there has been abuse, adultery, or addiction. However, divorce is like experiencing a death of someone close. Children are effected dearly to the issue of choosing parents. On the 2006 Census, over 1 million children are effected every year. Then, the stress lies on the single parent. Below are resources for people going through a divorce and especially for the children. Please refer this resources to those that are in need.

Michael Reagan's Definition of Divorce (son of Ronald Reagan):
"Divorce is where two adults take everything that matters to a child---the
child's home, family, security, and sense of being loved and protected--and
they smash it all up, leave it in ruins on the floor, then walk out and
leave the child to clean up the mess."
